Get ready to win “Best Costume” at this year’s Halloween parties! With just a little know-how and a whole lot of creativity, you’ll be on your way to creating a spooky Halloween costume that your friends will be talking about for years to come. Here’s a list of four DIY Halloween costume ideas, and all of the details you need to make them.
Zombie
The zombie costume is classic. Just make yourself look like a tattered, back-from-the-dead person, all while perfecting your creepy zombie strut. There are a ton of zombie makeup tutorials you can follow online. As for your clothing? Go through your closet and choose clothes that no longer serve you. Beat them up – literally – shred them, roll them in dirt, spray fake blood on them. Beware. You may even spook yourself when looking in the mirror!
Mummy
Come back from the dead all wrapped up in your mummy best with this easy and affordable DIY Halloween costume. Head to your nearest fabric store, thrift store, or home goods store for some white fabric or sheets. You will then cut the fabric into three inch strips and soak them in a large pot of boiling water with tea bags to get that old-world feel. Throw on a white base layer, and begin wrapping your prepped fabric around your body, tying the ends in knots. As you wrap around your legs, stomach, chest, and arms, you will finish by wrapping your head! Add a little white and grey makeup to your exposed face, and you’ve officially been mummified.
Vampire
There’s plenty of vampire characters to draw inspiration from, or you can get creative and come up with your own unique vamp vibe. Simply wear all black, grab a pair of believable fangs, and put on some homemade “blood” – a mix of water, corn syrup, and red food dye – letting it bleed out of the corner of your mouth. Bon appétit, fangtastic friend!
Creepy Doll
There's something incredibly frightening about most dolls (you know, the dolls that your grandma used to keep around the house). Turn yourself into a lifelike doll with a simple collared dress, eyeliner to ring your eyes, a bow atop your head, and a little creative makeup artistry – like stitches or a crack along your porcelain face.
