Boasting 44 beautiful acres in the heart of Keller, Bear Creek Park is a favorite place for residents to visit. There are plenty of things to do there, even in the middle of winter. Here are a few ideas that will help you get out and about this season.
Take a Hike or a Bike Ride
With a park this expansive, there’s always an opportunity to enjoy some outdoor walking or biking. Bear Creek Park features a .6-mile paved trail which is perfect for a short jaunt on a January afternoon. Make it a leisurely walk or a vigorous hike. Or bring your bicycle and enjoy a spin. You can also explore the 44-acre park on foot and see where your curiosity takes you. That’s a lot of ground to cover, after all!
Have an Outdoor Hot Cocoa Picnic
With plenty of tables, this park is a favorite destination for summer picnics. How about putting a winter twist on this tradition and invite some friends to a hot cocoa picnic? There are multiple picnic tables, as well as a large pavilion area at which you can gather. And packing for a hot cocoa picnic couldn’t be easier: all you need is a thermos of hot cocoa, mugs (tin mugs won’t be in danger of breaking and are more eco-friendly than disposable cups), spoons, a container of whipped cream, and a variety of toppings, syrups, and spices of your choice. It’s the perfect way to spend a winter afternoon at the park.
Meditate
If your New Year’s resolution is focused on improving your health, being more observant, controlling your stress, or practicing mindfulness, spend some time at Bear Creek Park enjoying the wildscape garden and its waterfall and pond. It’s the perfect spot to slow down and pay attention to your breath while observing the beautiful scenery around you.
Practice Your Art Skills
Gather a pad as well as pencils, markers, or watercolors and head out to one of the gazebos at Bear Creek Park. Spend a few hours practicing your craft by drawing or painting the scenery of the park. The best part about this is that you’re bound to meet new people who will stop by to see what you’re up to.
