SURPRISING FACTS ABOUT WELL-KNOWN TOURIST DESTINATIONS

|

With the world slowly returning to normalcy, you may be planning that long-awaited and well-deserved getaway. Whether your idea of a vacation is lounging on a sunlit beach or trekking across beautiful landscapes, you're always sure to discover something interesting that you didn't expect. So, with exploration in mind, here are three surprising facts about well-known tourist destinations.

Would you like Pizza With Your Pyramids?

When you think of visiting the pyramids, you likely have images of trekking across the desert on your trusty camel as you battle an ancient mummy who's attempting to destroy the world. OK, that last part is a bit of an exaggeration, but the camel and the trekking are on point. The truth is, the city of Giza is home to millions of Egyptians and is surrounded on three sides by cityscapes. There's even a Pizza Hut less than a mile away with a fantastic view of the pyramids.

Starbucks on a Train

Imagine you're on a train in Switzerland, leaving Geneva on your way to the majestic city of St. Gallen. The lush green landscapes captivate you as you think, “This is paradise.” You get thirsty and head to the cafe car and discover … a Starbucks? That's right. The Swiss railway SBB teamed up with Starbucks to create the first Starbucks cafe on a train. They really are everywhere.

Welcome to the Tree Bar

South Africa is known for its amazing wildlife, beautiful beaches, and unique culture. What you may not know is that in the small town of Modjadjiskloof, in the province of Limpopo, there was once a bar called Sunland Baobab that had been around since the 1930s. Oh wait, did we mention that the pub was located inside a tree that’s more than 1,000 years old? Baobabs naturally hollow out as they age, and someone had the idea of putting a bar inside one. The menu consisted of draft beers, wine, and a very cool story the lucky ones who visited got to take with them.
