If you’ve got a standard deck of 52 cards sitting atop a shelf or tucked away in a drawer, pull out those cards out for hours of fun in your Keller apartment! Here are two classic card games that never go out of fashion.
CRAZY EIGHTS
Eights are wild in this crazy game, where players try to be the first to run out of cards in their hands. Deal out cards to two, three, four, or more players by providing five cards to get started. Place the remaining cards of the deck in the center of the table, face down. Draw one starter card and place it on a new pile, face up. From the dealer's left, each player takes a turn putting a card onto the starter pile. The card must either match the suit or denomination on the face-up starter pile. If you have an eight (8), you're in luck! Play eights as wild cards to match anything and specify a suit. But, if you are unable to discard your card, you must draw from the face-down deck until you retrieve a match. The first player to discard all of his or her cards wins! The winner collects points for all remaining cards in other players' hands (eights = 50; face cards = 10; Ace = 1; numbers = number value). Play multiple rounds and let the overall highest scorer be the winner.
SLAPJACK
Deal the entire deck of cards out to two, three, four, or more players (hands do not have to be even). Each player keeps his or her cards face down in a pile. Once the action starts, the goal is to be the first player to win all of the cards from the table. From the dealer's left, each player places a card from his or her pile face up in the center of the table. If the placed card is a Jack, all the players try to be the first one to slap the deck to win all of the cards on the table. So, the first player to SLAP the Jack wins the entire center pile. The winner of the center pile shuffles the cards and places them in his or her own pile. Then, play resumes. If you mistakenly slap a card that isn’t a Jack, you must give away one card to the player who placed the mistakenly slapped card. If you run out of cards, you can try to get back in the game by slapping the next played Jack. Otherwise, you're out.
