Hiking is a great way to exercise, and your workout can vary each time depending on which trail you explore.
When you're ready to lace up your hiking boots, the area's best trails include:
Blue Lagoon Trail
With its signature lighting system, the Blue Lagoon Trail makes for a fun night adventure. The lights change color from white to blue based on the moon's phases, and nearly all of the hike is below street level. Blue Lagoon is rated as moderate and takes about ninety minutes to complete.
Brazos Bend State Park Trail
Brazos Bend offers a scenic eight-mile trail found along the park's lakes and sloughs. Rated as easy, the path is connected to a series of loops which allow hikers to explore as short or as long as they'd like. Throughout, they'll see towering pecan and water oak trees as well as colorful flowers.
Lake Loop Trail/Elm Lake Loop Trail
Also found within Brazos Bend State Park, the Lake Loop and Elm Lake trails combine to create a 5.2-mile adventure. They're made up of elevated crushed granite walkways, and lead hikers around two of the park's scenic lakes. It's possible to see alligators, and more than 290 species have also been spotted along the trails.
Cullen Park Hike and Bike Trail
Encompassing more than 10,500 acres, Cullen Park offers a 7.9-mile out and back trail. The trail is surrounded by dozens of trees that provide plenty of shade, and at the midway point, hikers will discover a park, small airport, and a cemetery dating back to the 1800s. It welcomes all skill levels and takes approximately two hours to complete.
