Making the Most of Your Trip to the Houston Zoo

For a fun way to get up close to some of the world's most exciting wildlife, head to the Houston Zoo. Not only does it offer incredible animal encounters, but a portion of each sale goes toward helping animals in the wild. The encounters you can enjoy near our apartments in Katy, Texas, include:

Sea Lion Painting Experience

Join the sea lions and their keepers to create a unique artwork you can take home. You'll choose the colors and watch as the sea lions use their noses and sweeping brushstrokes to paint a one-of-a-kind piece. This experience takes place on Wednesdays between 9:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m, although you must be sure to register in advance.

Orangutan Experience

Intelligent creatures, the orangutans form close bonds with each other and their keepers. They're among some of the zoo's most charming animals. Using a special feeding tube, you'll help them enjoy a tasty treat for an experience unlike any other. The orangutan encounter is on Tuesdays from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. You can easily reserve your tickets online.

Sloth Encounter

Meet Curly during the sloth encounter. He's one of the slowest creatures you will ever see. You'll learn fun facts from his keepers and even have a chance to feed him his favorite treat and take a slothie (selfie with a sloth). You can get to know Curly on Tuesdays between 1:00 p.m. and 1:45 p.m.

Giant River Otter Encounter

Step into South America's Pantanal to see Max, Marley, and Rijo. These otters are full of personality, and their keepers will share how much fun it is to care for this playful trio. The giant river otter encounter is on Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
