We’re about to enter the season of giving and it’s a perfect time to put your efforts and/or money toward helping make sure everyone in the Katy community has the food and nourishment they need for the winter days ahead. Here are some great local organizations that could use your help.
Katy Christian Ministries Food Pantry
This food pantry is working hard to alleviate local food insecurities. It also provides personal care items. Their model allows clients to choose what they need and receive service in a timely manner. So much of KCM’s success is thanks to the dedicated volunteers who bring their time and talent to the scene. They run regular volunteer orientation sessions via Zoom, which means all you have to do is apply, then join a scheduled training from the comfort of your home. There are numerous tasks available, including picking up food from retail locations, intake processing, sorting and organizing, and much more. It’s a great way to contribute to the community.
Cypress Assistance Ministries
This organization seeks to help empower those dealing with financial struggles, including housing and food insecurities. Their volunteer intake program will help match you with exactly the kind of assistance that would best utilize your experience and talent. Once you have signed up, you’ll receive a thorough training, as well as a tour of the facility, in order to make sure you are fully integrated into the CAM family. There are many needs to fill within the organization from administrative assistance to food delivery.
West Houston Assistance Ministries
This Houston-based food pantry has got all the avenues covered with their distribution centers that run on a reliable schedule in order to help those in need make sure they have access to good, nutritional food. In fact, WHAM even provides pet food in order to ensure everyone’s entire family gets fed – including the fur babies. They are always in need of nonperishable food donations, which they accept every day during scheduled times. You can also donate cash, gently used household items, and even stocks. And they are always looking for volunteers to help out with distribution and events.
