Explore the Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center Near Irving
An easy drive from our Irving apartments is a fun destination that preserves open spaces and protects wildlife. We are talking about the Dogwood Canyon Audubon Center and it's a fabulous place to spend a day outdoors. Here is some of what you can discover during your visit:
Meet the Kestrel
Go nose to beak as you meet the center's American kestrel. He can no longer live in the wild and has called the center home since 2016. The behind-the-scenes experience includes examining bird feathers and getting to hold the kestrel on your gloved hand. Advanced registration is required.
West Loop Trail
Stretching 1.65 miles roundtrip, the West Loop Trail features an elevation change of 150 feet over the first half-mile. It's popular for its panoramic views and offers a fun chance to see soaring birds from the high points. Watch for red-tailed hawks, turkey vultures, and other feathery creatures. You can explore the trail on your own or gather a group of friends and book a guided day or nighttime hike. These guided adventures are led by naturalists who are experts in local ecosystems. Be sure and book in advance.
Guided Kayak Eco-tour
Led by Audubon guides, the private kayak eco-tours are perfect for reunions, office retreats, and fun outings with friends. You can choose from two starting points and will paddle along the water in a two-seat kayak. During the trip, the guide will point out birds and other wildlife. This fun adventure lasts between 1.5 and 2 hours.
