If you struggle with allergies, but really want a dog, fear not! There are plenty of options that might work for you. Check out these hypoallergenic breeds.
Bichon Frise
Even people with allergies will do well with this adorable breed. Bichon Frises don’t shed, so you don’t have to worry about the allergy issues. Just remember that this breed needs regular grooming for that very reason. They’re personable, curious, alert, and incredibly friendly. Everyone at the dog park won’t be able to get enough.
Maltese
This is another little breed who is courageous, fun, and playful. They have long, silky hair, and so they need to be brushed a lot, but they typically don’t cause issues for people with allergies. You’ll have a lot of fun with a Maltese and all that silky hair makes for great cuddling.
Lagotto Romagnolo
This breed is famous for looking like a stuffed toy – that’s how cute they are. They don’t get larger than 35 pounds, and their coat is plush and curly. They’re very energetic and need lots of opportunities for running and playing. They need lots of grooming, too, but it’s so worth it.
Miniature Schnauzer
Miniature Schnauzers become very attached to their owners and as such, they make great little watchdogs. They’re super adaptable, which is extra helpful if you like to get around a lot and want to bring your pup with you. These are also little dogs and their coats grow in ways that give them a unique look. You’ll love their personality – absolutely fearless and deeply curious, but never aggressive.
Toy Poodles
If you’ve heard the rumors that poodles can be a little bit “much,” it’s true – but in the best way. Toy Poodles just want to be a person and as such, they expect to be treated that way. This makes them excellent companions, even if they’re a little extra work. This is another breed that needs to be regularly groomed, but again, they are worth the effort. They’re incredibly smart and make loving, intelligent fur babies.
Standard Schnauzer
This is an incredibly cuddly breed who will love to snuggle up after a long run at the dog park. You’ll love their little beard and their super friendly personality. They’re extremely smart and respond to training very well.
