For a fun day outdoors, head to Cedar Hill State Park. It's an easy drive from the DFW Metroplex and draws visitors who come to enjoy everything from hiking to camping. Here is some of what the park has to offer near our Fort Worth apartments:
Fishing
Cast a line in Joe Pool Lake. You can reel in crappie, catfish, largemouth bass (the most popular sport fish in the reservoir), and other species. The lake features boat ramps and two lighted fishing jetties, and you don't need a fishing license to fish from the shore or a pier in a Texas state park.
Penn Farm Agricultural History Center
Step back in time at the Penn Farm Agricultural Farm Center. It's where the Penn family lived and worked for more than a century. The Penns arrived in Cedar Hill in December 1854. They established a homestead, and Major John Anderson Penn acquired over 2,200 acres of land over the next ten years. The family mainly raised chickens, pigs, and cows. During the self-guided tour, you'll see things like the smokehouse, double crib barn, and water tank (used to store drinking water for the cattle).
Bird Watching
Cedar Hill's impressive bird list features about 200 species. Watch for the great horned owls. They live at the park year-round and are large birds with reddish-brown faces and mottled gray-brown body feathers. At dusk, you may spot them sitting on tree limbs at the edges of open areas. Other birds include red-tailed hawks, eastern bluebirds, and painted buntings (common at the park from May through August).
Before heading to Cedar Hill State Park, enjoy a delicious breakfast at a local Fort Worth restaurant. Finally, if you're looking to call The Davis home, please contact us. Our leasing team would love to discuss everything our Fort Worth apartments have to offer.
