Hike Along the Trails at the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge 

Head to the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge for a fun-filled day in the sun. Its mission is to preserve and protect natural areas. As you explore the trails, you'll experience what life in the Metroplex was like in the early 20th century. The following are a few of the paths the center offers near our Fort Worth apartments:

Oak Motte 

Stretching 2.1 miles, Oak Motte is a scenic loop trail that meanders through open prairie and wooded areas. It's also the perfect place to spot wildlife like the Texas spiny lizard. These small creatures are often found on trees or fences. They're gray and feature white, black, or red-brown blotches down their backs. Don't miss Oak Motte when you are in the area.

Forked Tail Creek Trail 

Offering a short adventure, the Forked Tail Creek Trail features an easy 0.6-mile adventure along the bed of an ephemeral creek. In the late afternoon, listen for the hoots of the barred owls. Believe it or not, their call sounds like, "who cooks for you, who cooks for you all?" Raccoons often leave crayfish shells along the creek bed, and you may also see fox squirrels, nine-banded armadillos, and other wildlife. 

Cross Timbers Trail 

To learn about an ancient western cross timber forest, lace up your hiking boots along the Cross Timbers Trail. Just over 3.3 miles roundtrip, it's where you will see 250-year-old trees and take in scenic views of the west fork of the Trinity River. You may also see wading birds and turtles basking in the sun along the way.
