The Fort Worth Zoo is the oldest and largest zoo in Texas. It was founded in 1909 by the Fort Worth Zoological Society and has been operated by that organization since its inception. In addition to housing over 2,000 animals of more than 250 species, it includes many other facilities such as an aquarium and botanical gardens. The Fort Worth Zoo also offers educational programs for both adults and children including animal shows, petting zoos and feeding opportunities with some of their more popular animals such as elephants or lemurs (which can be fed).
