White doors decorated with wreaths and surrounded in a variety of holiday decor, including fake snow, a Christmas tree, a garland, a lantern, and fur cased pillows.

It’s Christmastime and the holiday decor is in full force. As Lux on Main residents are gearing up to compete in the upcoming Door Decoration Contest, we’re giving you a little insight on what makes a great holiday door display and easy ways to achieve the look. Transform your front door into your very own winter wonderland with these four tips that will surely impress your neighbors (and judges!).

Go Classic

Stick with the standard Christmas colors: red, green, shades of white, and silver. Drape some fresh cedar around your door to create that effortless holiday look. Add a beautiful wreath with some small berries, or the pop of a bright red bow. Beside your door, set up some galvanized potted mini rosemary trees. Take the stress out of hanging garlands and a wreath by using Command hooks that are easy to put up, and even easier to remove.

Wreath Outside of The Box

When it comes to your wreath or door hanging, traditional is not always best. Make a cedar stacked Christmas tree by wiring together several tiny cedar wreaths to make the shape of a tree. Or use fresh cedar to form the shape of the first letter of your last name. Or make this rustic wreath with pre-cut wood slices. There are a lot of options out there – go with something fun and extraordinary this season.

Choose An Unusual Accent Color

Add an unexpected accent color to your Christmas decor to up your style points. Oranges are an excellent way to style up some greenery. Make a dried orange garland and display it over your door entrance, and surround your door in mini potted trees with clementines dotting their pots. Classic pine green and orange pair well together, so run with that combination – or go with whatever combinations you gravitate toward.

Light It Up

Set the mood with lights! Create an archway over your door with some twinkle lights – either hardwired or battery powered. Add a large pre-lit wreath to your door for some serious flare, and finish the scene with some tufts of fake snow piled on either side of your doormat. This North Pole mood will make you smile every time you walk through the door.

Take advantage of these four easy tips and get your door ready for Lux on Main’s Door Decorating Contest, held this Wednesday, December 23, at 6 PM. For more tips on winning at everything, visit our blog.
