June is here, and the summer heat has settled in. Fortunately for us, Central Texas is filled with amazing places to take the sizzle out of those sweltering days. Here are four great spots to cool off close to Buda.
Blue Hole Regional Park
One of Texas’ premier swimming holes, Blue Hole Regional Park serves up crystal-clear water perfect for beating the heat. Surrounded by 126 acres of sprawling fields and forested parkland, Blue Hole is also great if you’re looking to get your nature fix. Do make sure to lock down a reservation before you visit.
Schlitterbahn
This Bavarian-themed water wonderland in New Braunfels features 51 rivers, rides, slides, and chutes – much of which are powered by natural spring water from the Comal River. You could spend days hitting up all of Schlitterbahn’s attractions. Whether you’re looking for a steep, high-velocity thrill ride or a casual spin around a lazy river – or anything in between – Schlitterbahn can accommodate. They even have lodging onsite if you want to make a weekend out of it.
Landa Park
This cool spot is also down in New Braunfels. Here, you can rent a paddleboat from the Landa Park Boathouse and explore the lake and Comal Springs. You can also check out the Landa Park Aquatic Complex, which features three pools, including one fed by Comal Springs that is 72 degrees year-round.
Tubing the Comal River
Looking for a day of laid-back fun on the Comal River? Head down to – yep, you guessed it – New Braunfels and tube the river’s sparkling 72-degree water. You can bring your own tubes or rent them from a variety of vendors. Many even have shuttle services. Here’s a few options:
