The mountains around Chattanooga provide an array of diverse opportunities for cyclists of all skill levels.
The area's moderate temperatures make mountain biking a year-round sport, and some of the best nearby trails include:
Enterprise South Nature Park Trails
Enterprise is home to some of the most popular mountain bike trails in the city. They span 25 miles and wind among several sealed ammunition storage bunkers. The trails are fast in places and are surrounded by hundreds of mature trees.
Raccoon Mountain Trail System
Made up of several trails, Raccoon Mountain offers varying riding environments that range from intermediate to advanced. Some are relatively smooth without much elevation change, while others feature plenty of rocks and roots, as well as steep climbs. The trails span about 29 miles and are open from sunrise to sunset.
5-Points Recreation Area
Considered one of the area's most diverse trail systems, 5-Points offers trails for all skill levels. They stretch nearly twenty miles and are found on the scenic plateau of Lookout Mountain. They meander through the Durham mine that operated from approximately 1850 to 1922 and includes long, steep climbs and rolling downhills.
Stringers Ridge Park Trails
Stringers Ridge is a 92-acre urban wilderness park overlooking the Tennessee River. It offers a short loop with deceptively punchy climbing, as well as other trails that range in difficulty from beginner to intermediate. Along the way, riders enjoy picturesque views of the city and see a Civil War cannon placement. Stringers Ridge was established after a group of citizens joined together to preserve one of the last natural destinations in Chattanooga, and it's open from dusk to dawn.
