5 LAWN GAMES YOU HAVE TO TRY THIS SUMMER

|

Nothing says summer like long nights out on the lawn with drinks in hand, playing a game with friends. Here are a few favorites to try this season.

Cornhole

This classic game consists of two sloped cornhole boards, each with a small hole at the top. Each player then takes turns trying to toss bean bags across the playing field and into the hole. The player who gets the most beanbags through the board is the winner. This game looks easy, but it’s quite challenging – and seriously addictive!

Badminton

How many summer evenings have been enjoyed with an hour or two of swinging badminton rackets about? Though this game is traditionally played with a net, which increases the difficulty level, you can bat the shuttlecock back and forth without it. Best of all, you can purchase a set of rackets and shuttlecocks at a great price, making for an easy and cheap way to bring a little extra fun to your summer get-togethers.

Bocce Ball

Though this game is widely attributed to Italian origins, as the name suggests, it’s been documented back to 5200 B.C., where it was depicted in a painting in an Egyptian tomb. And if this game has held human interest for this long, you know it must be fun! The goal is to throw your balls closer to the pallino (a small white ball that acts as a “goal post”) than anyone else – and the rules dictate that in order to achieve this goal, you can try to knock your opponents’ balls out of the way. This is a fun game for those who are exceptionally competitive.

Croquet

This classic 80s lawn game – and the Queen of Hearts’ favorite pastime – is making a comeback. You might call this game a perfect mix of bocce ball and golf, but way more laidback and a lot more fun with a group of friends. You can pick up a set at most major sports equipment stores.

Ladder Golf

It might look strange with its ladders and bolas – and certainly not much like golf – but this game is fast becoming a favorite at summer parties. Look for sets made out of wood, which are much more stable than the plastic varieties.
