Nashville SC kicks off its third Major League Soccer season at the Seattle Sounders on Feb. 27. Here are four compelling storylines to monitor as the season gets underway.
A New Stadium
Nashville SC debuts its new digs with its home opener against the Philadelphia Union on May 1. Once finished, Nashville SC Stadium will be the largest soccer-specific stadium in the United States and Canada. It’s quite the sight and definitely worth checking out.
Can They Make a 2nd Straight Playoff Appearance?
In just its second season, Nashville made the Eastern Conference playoffs last year. They earned the franchise’s first MLS playoff win – a first-round victory over Orlando City – before losing to Philadelphia in the conference semifinals. Can they do it again in 2022?
New Additions
Nashville SC had an active offseason, adding Ethan Zubak, Teal Bunbury, and Sean Davis to the mix. Davis, the former Red Bulls captain, is the biggest name of the trio. The 29-year-old midfielder helped New York reach the playoffs in all seven of his seasons there. He’ll be a stabilizing force for Nashville’s midfield. His winning pedigree should provide a big boost, too.
Move to the Western Conference
After playing its first two seasons in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference, Nashville is joining the Western Conference in 2022. That’ll mean a whole new schedule dynamic – and a lot more travel – for the boys in gold.
