For a fun-filled day outdoors, head to Long Hunter State Park. Stretching 2,600 acres, it features an array of recreational activities, from hiking to fishing. Here is just a sample of what the park offers a short drive away from our Nashville apartments:
Boating
J. Percy Priest Lake is a favorite spot for fishing, waterskiing, and other water activities. It borders the park and includes two public boat launch ramps. Visitors can also paddle along Couchville Lake. For rentals, the boat dock opens seasonally. Canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards are available, with paddles and vests included.
Hiking
Don't forget your hiking boots. The park boasts approximately 25 miles of scenic trails covering terrain from cedar glades to bluff overlooks. For a long adventure, explore the Volunteer Trail. Stretching 5.5 miles one way, it offers stunning views of J. Percy Priest Lake, where you will likely spot geese, ducks, and shorebirds. The path slightly increases in elevation as it leaves the shore and climbs up the bluffs. Take in the fresh air while enjoying your day outdoors in Nashville in this beautiful, breathtaking scenery.
Alpine Tower Adventure
Conquer your fear of heights on the Alpine Tower Adventure. Standing 50 feet tall, it provides the "same challenges of rock climbing and high ropes course elements." Climbers find different routes of varying difficulty and are encouraged to step outside their comfort zone. Reservations are required.
Mountain Biking
Finally, enjoy some cycling fun. Mountain biking offers a great way to explore the outdoors as you improve your physical fitness. The park's trail features two loops and challenges riders of all abilities. The path is rated as intermediate, and hikers are also welcome.
