Love road trips? Love sports? How about mixing the two?
Here are our ideas for great sports-related road trips within the region.
Take a Sports Break in Denver
If you love basketball, you’ll definitely want to head to Denver and settle into the seats at the Ball Arena. Whether it’s the San Antonio Spurs, L.A. Clippers, Boston Celtics, or the home team, the Denver Nuggets, you’ll find all the best of the NBA here. While you’re in the Mile High City, be sure to take advantage of their extensive hiking and biking trails, golf, and fly-fishing opportunities. And of course, there’s the nearby Folsom Field, where you can catch some college football if you go at the right time of year.
Check Out the Phoenix Sports Scene
There are countless ways to enjoy a sporty road trip in the Phoenix area. Catch a Coyotes game at Glendale’s Gila River Arena. Schedule your trip around a Cardinals game at the State Farm Stadium or the Sun Devils at the stadium named after their team. And baseball fans will have to stop by Chase Field to watch the Diamondbacks play.
Follow All the Games in Dallas
Though it’s a long trip (about eight hours), checking out all the sports venues in Dallas is worth the drive. Head over to the American Airlines Center to see hockey, basketball, bull riding, figure skating, and football. Take in a little college football at Southern Methodist University’s Gerald J. Ford Stadium. And you absolutely must visit the AT&T Stadium in nearby Arlington, the home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Explore New Mexico’s Best Teams
You have to include your home state on your bucket list – and there’s plenty to explore here. Head down to Las Cruces to enjoy some college football at New Mexico State University’s Aggie Memorial Stadium. Watch The Lobos get nothing but net at the University of New Mexico’s The Pit. And head over to Isotopes Park to watch Albuquerque’s minor league baseball team, The Isotopes, hit a home run.
