Here are Our Favorite Taco Places in Santa Fe, New Mexico
Santa Fe is known for many things. We have world-renowned art exhibits, spectacular nature scenes, and exciting year-round events. But the city may be most notable for its Mexican food. And what's more synonymous with Mexican food than the classic taco? If you're looking for delicious taco places in Santa Fe, you're not short on options. Here are our three favorite taco places near our Santa Fe apartments.
La Choza
Voted as the Best Mexican Restaurant in the city by the Santa Fe Reported, La Choza has a reputation for delicious tacos. And they have more-than-a-few that are worthy of discussion. We love the soft blue corn tacos, which are filled with cheese, veggies, and meat and smothered in red or green chile.
The crispy tacos are also fantastic, and each thin and crispy tortilla carries a mighty crunch. Don't forget to try their salsa. It's spicy, sweet, and well-recognized in the area. And it's good enough to justify soaking up every little spatter on your plate.
Don't forget; a wealth of Mexican food lies beyond the ever-so-tempting tacos. Fragrant mushroom soups, crunchy blue-corn nachos, and juicy red chile and pork tamales are all city favorites. But don't sleep on their buffalo burgers, which deserve their own dedicated restaurant.
El Callejon Taqueria and Grill
Another hot spot for Mexican in New Mexico is El Callejon. In fact, it can be challenging to find parking, so come prepared to wait. But it's oh-so-worth-it. Over nine types of tacos are served daily. The Al Pastor tacos marry fall-apart pork with semi-spicy onion and fresh pineapple. And the Calabacitas is our favorite vegetarian taco in the city. It features fresh bell pepper, poblano, and onion with a wonderful sautéed squash.
We also recommend their appetizers. Our favorite is the quesadilla (yes, it's an appetizer here), but the waffle fries and chipotle mayo go together wonderfully.
Compas Tacos
Tacos and food trucks are nearly synonymous. And Compas Tacos is one of our favorite taco trucks in the city. Classic "street tacos" are the main fare on the menu. Each taco comes wrapped in a warm tortilla. Better yet, you can find a wide variety of meats and traditional flavors on this relatively bare menu. Beef tongue (lengua), intestines (tripitas), and pork stomach (buche) may sound adventurous. But they're absolutely delicious when paired with spices and veggies.
