If you find yourself needing to get away for a while but don’t want to deal with the hassle of finding someone to take care of your pup, bring them along! There are lots of great vacation destinations that will welcome your furry friend with open arms. Here are some to add to your must-see list.
Austin, Texas
This city is so friendly, it’ll embrace all your travel companions – even those of a canine persuasion. From restaurants to parks, there are countless places to go that will welcome your furry friend. Drop by one of the city’s famously delicious eateries like Austin Terrier, where dogs are a regular part of the clientele, sharing the patio with their owners. You can take classes with Austin Doga, which welcomes dogs at their studio (though right now, all classes are virtual). And enjoy one of the many recreational areas, like Lady Bird Lake, where you and your dog can go paddleboarding, kayaking, or take a beautiful hike in the Texas sun.
Sedona, Arizona
Another gem in the Southwest (and not too far from here), you and your pup won’t be able to get enough of the stunning scenery and tranquility of this gorgeous desert town. It’s particularly perfect for those who love hiking and who have active dogs. Head over to Coconino National Park to enjoy the red rocks that area of the country is so famous for. Most of the trails there and all around Sedona are dog-friendly. And don’t forget to drop by the Sedona Dog Park – it’s an epic recreational area for dogs large and small, young and old, and includes plenty of off-leash space.
Lake Placid, New York
This gorgeous vacation destination is home to some of the best outdoor recreation in the northeastern United States. There’s skiing, hiking, and biking – something to keep you and your pup busy and active. You’ll even find some dog-friendly shops along the Mirror Lake path that winds through the west end of the lake. And don’t worry – there are several dog-friendly restaurants there, like Lisa G’s, which has a gorgeous patio and deck area perfect for you and your canine companion.
