There’s something about festive community events – spirits are high, lights are shining bright, and people join together to celebrate. Get in the holiday spirit by taking part in one of these four Las Cruces holiday events held this month.
Catch a Show or Flick
The Rio Grande Theatre is celebrating big this season with some festive hits and performances on the big screen. Catch a live performance on Dec. 10 of Cuarteto Latinoamericano, one of the world’s most renowned string quartets and leading proponent of Latin American music. Or on Dec. 11, check out The Muppet Christmas Carol in the afternoon and It’s a Wonderful Life in the evening. For your Christmas carol fill, you better check out the holiday concert Carols Old and New, performed by the Mesilla Valley Chorale. There’s something for everyone at the Rio Grande.
The Nutcracker
The holiday season is not quite complete without a trip to see The Nutcracker. On Dec. 16-18, the Borderlands Ballet Company, performing with the Las Cruces School of Dance & Music, brings this magical seasonal performance to the ASNMSU Center for the Arts. You’ll surely leave with visions of sugarplums dancing in your head.
Mesilla Christmas Eve on the Plaza
On Christmas Eve, the Mesilla Plaza comes alive with thousands of luminarias outlining the streets, sidewalks, and buildings. It’s a beautiful sight to see, and something for everyone to enjoy as they stroll the streets, hot cocoa in hand.
Las Cruces Chile Drop
Head into the new year with a bang at the annual Las Cruces Chile Drop. Held at the downtown Plaza de Las Cruces on Dec. 31, guests will enjoy live music, local food trucks, and the drop of a 19-foot chrome chile featuring 400 feet of LED lights! You’ll have to see it to believe it.
