It’s autumn – a favorite time of year for many, filled with steaming mugs of tea, warm sweaters, and cozy blankets. One of the beloved traditions of the season is decorating the home to reflect the warmth of this time of year.
Here are some of the decorating trends that are cropping up in 2021, as well as suggestions on where to find them.
Try the Farmhouse Look
“Farmhouse chic” has been trending for years, thanks in part to popular HGTV shows like Fixer Upper and Home Town – and it’s far from over. Take advantage of this by stocking up on throw quilts to drape on the sofa and bed. Look for pillows in plain linen or in cotton with gingham or plaid prints. Set out a few rustic wooden trays (the perfect place to set those mugs of tea when you’re taking a “cozy break”) and perhaps some farmhouse-style lanterns like this one from Target.
Add a Little Plaid
There is something about plaid that is so warmly reminiscent of autumn. Perhaps it reminds us of school uniforms, which takes us back to all those exciting Septembers of our youth in which we embarked upon a new academic and social journey each year. Bring a little of that autumnal excitement into your home by decorating with plaid. There are lots of ways to tie in this print from duvet covers to napkins like these from At Home. Best of all, if you choose a more seasonally-neutral palette, you can use these items in your winter décor, as well.
Bring in the Copper
When changing up one’s décor, many people focus on textiles and wood for accent pieces. Don’t forget to include metal. This element adds a different textural layer to a room, and by choosing copper, you’re bringing in that warm, autumnal hue that so captures the season. Try copper vases or trays on shelves and tables. Or head over to Michaels for these copper picture frames or Walmart for a set of copper mugs.
Cozy Up with Faux Fur
There’s nothing cozier to curl up with than a faux fur throw. They also happen to look beautiful and rustic across a bed or draped on a chair. Head over to Bed, Bath & Beyond and pick up their Sachi Oversized Faux Fur Throw Blanket.
