Volunteering not only helps others but also feeds the soul. If you're able to lend a helping hand, there are a variety of amazing local organizations who could use your help.

Here are a few opportunities that may be perfect for you:

ANIMAL HUMANE NEW MEXICO

At Animal Humane New Mexico, the goal is to improve the lives of cats and dogs through sheltering, adoptions, and veterinary services. Founded in 1965, it serves over 10,000 animals every year, and since 2010, every pet in its care has been rehomed. Animal Humane is recognized as a top U.S. charity based on transparency, financial accountability, and administrative-to-program cost ratio.

The shelter has more than 400 volunteers and is always looking for more. Duties may include cat socializing, dog walking, and answering phones.

UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL NEW MEXICO

At the United Way, the mission is to bring people and resources together to measurably strengthen our community. This nonprofit organization serves four counties, and is passionate about improving the lives of those most vulnerable in central New Mexico.

The United Way is looking for Community Fund volunteers. These volunteers connect with other nonprofits and determine how to best invest community fund dollars in our area.

UNM SANDOVAL REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER

The UNM Sandoval Regional Medical Center opened in 2012 and is committed to offering expert healthcare that's delivered with a smile. It comes complete with an emergency department, six operating rooms, and 60 acute inpatient beds. The hospital is known for its unique model which allows both University of New Mexico faculty physicians and community-based independent doctors to provide care.

The volunteers develop new skills and meet a diverse group of people while contributing to the community. Duties may include greeting guests, assisting in the office, and delivering flowers to patients.
