Ah, the breakfast taco. The Tex-Mex answer to the McDonald’s Egg McMuffin, perfect for breakfasts on the go or soaking up a few morning margaritas (you just escaped 2020 – nobody will blame you). These little wonders pack everything a body needs into an easily transportable package. And if there’s one thing Albuquerque’s good at, it’s eating delicious food on the go. Here are our favorite ABQ spots to get your breakfast on, Tex-Mex-style.
Rusty Taco
If you’ve got “taco” in your name, you have to have a wide variety – those are the rules. And this chain option truly delivers. They offer eight eggy options, but their non-breakfast options look good enough to eat anytime of the day.
5600 Coors Blvd. NW & 6600 Menaul Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM
Taco Cabana ABQ
Another taco chain restaurant, Taco Cabana’s five ABQ locations also succeed at the name thing and feature four breakfast tacos, as well as breakfast tortas and a breakfast enchilada. You can’t go wrong with a classic bacon, egg & cheese taco.
6500 San Mateo Blvd. NE, 8330 Montgomery Blvd. NE & 3301 Coors Blvd. NW, Albuquerque, NM
Olympus Encantada Office
Now that you’ve got breakfast tacos on the brain, be sure to stop by the Olympus Encantada office for our free offering of this delicious morning food, Friday, Jan. 22, from 8 to 10 AM.
One thing of note! Never, ever claim your home city or state is the birthplace of the breakfast taco – there is a battle raging between San Antonio and Austin as to who the true inventor is, and it isn’t pretty. Check out this article for OC Weekly for a closer look.
