NURTURE YOUR HOME WITH NATURE: 4 WAYS TO BRING THE OUTDOORS IN

|

Bringing nature into your home has profound effects on your physical and mental wellbeing, from possibly reducing your body mass index to easing symptoms of anxiety and depression. Olympus Alameda is sharing our favorite ways to bring Mother Nature into your home.

1. Calming Colors

A neutral home transports you into a tranquil space. Soft colors and muted tones help mimic the natural light that seeps into your home from your windows. When decorating, stick with more natural colors, like mustards, soft pastels, beiges, whites, and light greens or blues.

2. You Guessed It: Plants!

This one was an absolute given. Plants epitomize nature, and if you’re bringing nature in, that means bringing more plants in. Brown thumbs don’t fret – we have a solution. Whether you’re a total novice or a planty expert, there are a few go-to plants that are easy to care for and absolutely beautiful.

For rooms with less natural light or a shady corner of your home, a snake plant is ideall. It will do well in low light conditions and can go weeks or even months without water – just be sure not to water it too much – and you’ll have a happy sansevieria (snake) plant. Another plant that does extremely well for a newbie to the plant world is a pothos vine or plant. These beauties require much more water than the snake plant, but you can almost never over-water it. In fact, they can actually grow directly in water – just be sure to change the water every few days. And if you’re easing into life alongside plants, it’s a good idea to take it one or two plants at a time, so you don’t overwhelm yourself.

3. Natural Wood Furniture

A nature-infused home calls for raw or naturally finished wood furniture, like rattan or pine. Whether it’s a beautiful lounge chair or a simple bed frame, there are plenty of ways to incorporate natural-finish wood furniture – and even decor – throughout your place.

4. Soft Textures

From fluffy cotton throw blankets to dried flowers in a vase, incorporating nature into your apartment is as easy as searching online and clicking the purchase button. Try a bit of dried lavender in a vase on your bedside table for a pretty, scented decor piece or place a stunning landscape painting above your sofa in the living room. The possibilities are endless!
