Explore the Best Museums in Albuquerque

Museums offer a look back at historical items and information. So many exist near our Albuquerque apartments that it's hard to pick just a few. However, these four museums top our unique sights and exhibits list.

New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science has lots to explore. Visit the current exhibits or enjoy a walk through the Planetarium. You may also wish to see a show at the DynaTheater. Visitors enjoy the huge dinosaurs right at the entrance and the many dinosaur fossils on display.

New Mexico Steam Locomotive & Railroad Historical Society

If trains pique your interest, the New Mexico Steam Locomotive & Railroad Historical Society is for you. The Santa Fe 2926 from 1944 is being restored. Though this is not technically a museum, guests are allowed to explore the area on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the month. You'll need to wear a hard hat and have a personal guide to ensure your safety.

Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum

Referred to simply as "The Balloon Museum," this city attraction is famous for a reason. Brilliantly colored hot air and gas balloons are on display at all times. You'll see the sport ballooning hall of fame, a weather lab, and other exhibits. You can also enjoy the hands-on Elevation Station. This experience allows you to experience interactive games and activities related to ballooning.

American International Rattlesnake Museum

The American International Rattlesnake Museum focuses on animal protection. When you visit, be sure to see the rattlesnakes and other breeds are on display. They earned the award for being the best museum in the city in 2021. The unique facility holds more snakes than the six most famous zoos in the States combined.

Before heading to the museum of your choosing, stop in for coffee and a pastry at a local cafe. There are many bakery and coffee shop choices near our Albuquerque apartments. Contact us for a tour of Olympus Alameda if you're looking for a space surrounded by popular city hotspots.
