3 MUST-VISIT NEW MEXICO SKI RESORTS

|

With the ski season fully upon us, now’s the perfect time to check out a few of New Mexico’s amazing skiing and snowboarding spots. Here are our picks for the top spots to carve up some pow this winter.

Taos Ski Valley

This Northern New Mexico ski resort regularly makes the No. 1 spot on lists of the best ski spots in the state – and for good reason. Featuring 1,294 acres of skiable terrain, its 110 trails include options for skiers of all skill levels, with almost 50% of them designated beginner to intermediate, so everyone in your crew will find something to do. Ski Valley is also known for its Kachina chairlift, which hauls skiers to one of the highest elevations of any lift in North America – 12,481 feet.

Angel Fire Resort

Located 25 miles east of Taos, Angel Fire Resort is known for its varied terrain, with over 70% of its trails rated for beginner to intermediate skiers and snowboarders. It offers 81 runs on 614 skiable acres. In addition to regular downhill skiing, Angel Fire also offers night skiing, nordic skiing, and snowshoeing, as well as a kids’ sledding area and a tubing hill, making it a great option if you just want to play in the snow without having to balance on a slab or two of wood and fiberglass.

Sandia Peak

By far the most convenient option for residents of Olympus Alameda, this popular ski spot is about 33 miles from your door and is accessible via the tramway at Albuquerque’s northeast corner, which will deliver you to the top in just 15 minutes (or you can drive there). Sandia offers 300 acres of skiable terrain, featuring 35 ski runs, over 60% of which are beginner to intermediate, making it a great spot for an easygoing day at the mountain for skiers of all abilities.
