The Best Historic Buildings in Raeford

Discover The Charm of These Historical Buildings in Raeford

There is so much history to experience near our apartments in Raeford. Fortunately, history buffs have made it easy to come face-to-face with the past at these three museums, all of which are located within beautifully restored and historical homes.

Raeford-Hoke Museum

The Raeford-Hoke Museum was established to increase public awareness and preserve the history, culture, and artifacts of the Raeford community and Hoke County. This museum is actually composed of multiple homes. In addition to multiple smaller buildings, the grounds of the museum have two colonial homes: the McLauchlin-McFadyen House and Parker-Ray House, both of which display early 20th-century furnishings. The McLauchlin-McFadyen house is a stellar example of neoclassical revival architecture. The Parker-Ray house was actually relocated from off-site. Tours are available for groups of 10 or more upon arrangement, and admission is free.

The Richmond Temperance and Literary Society Hall and the John Charles McNeil House

Another historical property with two beautiful homes is located a short distance away at the Richmond Temperance and Literary Society Hall and the John Charles McNeil House. The Richmond Temperance and Literary Society Hall is a unique hexagonal building made from hand-molded brick and represents an important Antebellum social institution. The John Charles McNeil House is the restored home of a North Carolina poet laureate who lived from 1874 to 1907. Tours for the two historic buildings are available by appointment only.

Mill Prong House

The Mill Prong House is the oldest building on this list and was erected in 1795 by John Gilchrist. This certified National Historic Place represents the long history of Carolina Scott's near Raeford. This historical house has extensive online resources so you can learn about it from the comfort of your home. It also has regular events such as the Scotland County Highland Games, so check out its website to view upcoming activities.

You’re sure to have a great time at all of these historical buildings. If you're looking to make Raeford home, be sure to contact us. Our team would love to show you around our apartments and all the amenities that we offer.
