Explore Beautiful Gardens at Wing Haven in Charlotte

Not far from our Charlotte apartments is a destination that inspires a passion for the natural world. We're talking about Wing Haven, and it all started generations ago when two women named Elizabeth lived and gardened down the street from each other on Ridgewood Avenue. Today, you can explore their gardens and some exciting newer additions. Here is some of what Wing Haven has to offer:

Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary

Elizabeth Clarkson created the Wing Haven Garden & Bird Sanctuary in 1927 alongside her husband, Eddie. Together, they kept beauty and birds in mind. The plantings provide food, nesting spots, and cover for nature's feathery friends. To date, over 150 bird species have been spotted here. The gardens are all enclosed by brick walls and also feature pathways, statuary, and birdbaths.

Elizabeth Lawrence House & Garden

Born in 1904, Elizabeth Lawrence became a famed garden writer known around the world. She started her garden before the house was even constructed. Elizabeth also experimented to see what plants would grow well in the Middle South. Her research provided her with writing inspiration for more than 30 years, and her impressive credits include six manuscripts and more than 700 columns for the Charlotte Observer. Today, the small lot continues to showcase something in bloom every day of the year.

SEED Wildlife & Children's Garden

The SEED Wildlife & Children's Garden offers a fun learning opportunity for all ages. Best of all, it's 100 percent native and is a certified Wildlife Habitat. Activity centers include the bird observation platform, bird feeding station, as well as a living tunnel. There's always something new to discover, and they maintain the gardens using sustainable practices.
