For a fun journey back in time, head to the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument. It features North America's largest concentration of Hagerman horse fossils and welcomes thousands of visitors every year. Here is some of what the park has to offer near our Twin Falls apartments:

Thousand Springs Visitor Center

Start your visit at the Thousand Springs Visitor Center. It is the only place in the monument where you can see the fossils. They date back thousands of years and include extinct mastodons, horses, and saber-toothed cats. Additionally, the visitor center also offers ranger talks, passport stamps, and a water bottle refill station.

Picnicking

Pack a basket full of goodies and enjoy a meal at a covered picnic shelter along the park's road. You will find two overlooks (Snake River and Oregon Trail) that come complete with scenic views and educational exhibits. Instead of packing a basket, grab some takeout from a Hagerman restaurant near the monument.

Bird Watching

Grab your binoculars and watch for nature's feathery friends. The best bird watching spot at the monument is the Snake River Overlook. Depending on the time of year, you may spot raptors, songbirds, migrating waterfowl, and more.

Emigrant Trail

Finally, lace up your hiking boots along the Emigrant Trail. As you explore, look for old wagon ruts. They were left by travelers in the mid-1800s, who were making the difficult journey along the Oregon Trail. Don't forget your sunscreen. There is no shade along this 3.25-mile (one-way) path.
