Are you looking for a place where you can buy food directly from the people who produced it?
If so, head to the Forsyth Farmers Market.
It is just eighteen minutes from our Savannah apartments and is a producers only market. This means that the vendors produce at least 75 percent of what they sell.
The market is open every Saturday in Forsyth Park from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Vendors include:
BETTER FRESH FARM
At Better Fresh, the focus is on maintaining a sustainable farm. Owner Grant Anderson is a Georgia native, and he grows the food inside two recycled shipping containers. He never uses herbicides or pesticides, and the produce is available on the day it's harvested. The selection includes arugula, kale, and mustard seed.
CANEWATER FARM
The motto at Canewater Farm is "Grown for the Low Country." It's nestled on the banks of Knox Creek and the Carneghan River and is surrounded by mature oaks and slash pines. Both the soil and summer heat make the land challenging to farm. The farmers mill organic corn, raise pigs for local chefs, and cultivate ten acres of vegetables. Depending on the time of year, the selection may include bok choy, baby fennel, and purple top turnips.
SWAMPY APPLESEED MUSHROOMS
Ancil became interested in mushrooms as a child. He has been identifying wild varieties since 2009, and enjoys introducing them to the region. Georgia has many species of edible mushrooms, and over the last three years, Ancil has harvested over 300 pounds of Chanterelles alone. His selection depends on the season.
