If you’re looking for a dog or cat to add to your crew, The Slate is here to help. Savannah is filled with wonderful shelters and organizations that help place pets with the perfect homes. Here are four of our favorites.
Humane Society for Greater Savannah
A trusted name in the pet adoption world, the Humane Society is a nationwide go-to for those in search of a rescue animal. Humane Society for Greater Savannah primarily takes in dogs and cats, but you’ll also find the occasional guinea pig, rabbit, ferret, or other curious creature. The organization also offers classes on training and pet care.
Coastal Pet Rescue
Coastal Pet Rescue relies on its network of foster homes to save the lives of homeless, abused, and neglected dogs and cats in and around Savannah. The organization also has a short-term, small-capacity shelter to house rescues before they’re assigned to a foster home. And its name is delightful – Camp Pawsawhile Retreat. With more than 180 adoptions facilitated already in 2020, this organization places a lot of pups and kitties.
One Love Animal Rescue
One Love Animal Rescue partners with shelters and rescue groups to find forever homes for as many pets as possible. This benevolent organization promotes local adoption events, facilitates adoptions, and raises awareness about responsible pet ownership. Its website always features a long list of adoptable animals, giving you plenty to choose from as you search for your ideal canine or feline companion.
Chatham County Animal Services
Chatham County’s shelter is another place to look for your new best friend. The county moves a high volume of dogs and cats through its facility, so be sure to check often to find the one that’s perfect for you.
