Spring is here and summer's on the way, which means that the weather is getting warmer and warmer by the day. With warm weather comes the desire for cold treats, and what better chilled dessert is there than ice cream? If you're looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, we've got a list of some of our local favorites for you to try.
LEOPOLD'S ICE CREAM
This year, Leopold's Ice Cream is celebrating their one hundredth birthday, and they've been around for so long for a very good reason--their homemade ice cream is second to none! In addition to their twenty-three classic flavors, which range from traditional flavors such as chocolate and butter pecan to more contemporary options such as Tutti Frutti and rum bisque, they also have several dozen seasonal flavors. If you're interested in stepping out of your comfort zone, how about stopping in during the months of April or May for a taste of Japanese Cherry Blossom, or July for the fiery Habanero Sugar? Whether you're an ice cream traditionalist or a flavor adventurer, you're sure to find something up your alley at Leopold's!
CINNAMON BEAR COUNTRY STORE
This Savannah institution has become a classic for a very delicious reason--their ice cream! In addition to their ice cream, Cinnamon Bear also offers a variety of gifts and trinkets, as well as preserves and jams. They have free samples throughout the store, and if you're interested in trying something that doesn't have a sampling jar out, just ask the staff! They are dedicated to providing top-notch service, and for the past twenty years have been doing just that. Whether you're in Savannah on vacation or you're a full-time resident, be sure to stop by Cinnamon Bear!
RIVER STREET SWEETS
Technically speaking, this is a candy store, but we're willing to make an exception. As well as their famous pecan pralines (a Southern staple), River Street Sweets also offers ice cream, baked goods, homemade saltwater taffy, fudge, and the list goes on and on. Originally a gift store, they first started selling sweets in 1978, when they introduced their now-famous chocolate mint fudge, which soon led to their shop becoming what is now Savannah's oldest candy shop. In addition to buying (and eating) delicious sweet treats, you can also watch their candy makers ply their craft, a fascinating experience for everyone. Be sure to stop on by!
Whether you're looking for a scoop of ice cream, a piece of homemade saltwater taffy, or just an enjoyable afternoon spent in one of Savannah's classic sweet shops, we've got you covered! Any questions? Let us know! Those of us at Olympus Fenwick are more than happy to show you some true Southern hospitality.
