GIVE BACK: 3 GREAT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES IN POOLER

|

Volunteers play a vital role in supporting the health and happiness of our incredible Pooler neighborhood. If you would like to give back, here are three opportunities that may be right for you:

America's Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia

Founded in 1981, America's Second Harvest is a locally inspired, nonprofit food bank and community partnering organization. It serves as a food safety net for the residents of Southern Georgia who are at risk for hunger. Last year, America's Second Harvest distributed over 10.6 million meals to people in our area, and it receives truckloads of food donated daily by local and national grocers.

Volunteers play an integral role in helping this organization succeed. You can volunteer regularly or as time permits, and can help with a wide array of tasks. Jobs may include sorting, stacking, and packing boxes of food.

Humane Society for Greater Savannah

For more than 55 years, the Humane Society for Greater Savannah has strived to change the lives of pets and people. A group of concerned animal lovers established this venue, and the shelter serves hundreds of cats and dogs in need of good homes every year.

The Humane Society is looking for volunteers who can commit to working at least six hours every month. Duties may include cleaning, dog walking, and feeding the animals.

American Red Cross

The American Red Cross of Southeast and Coastal Georgia began serving the community on March 17, 1917. Its mission is to help residents with housing and other necessities after house fires or other disasters. The Red Cross also helps install free smoke alarms and provides CPR classes for anyone who wants to learn this lifesaving technique.

Volunteers are always welcome, and there are many ways to help. Choices include Blood Services office assistant, training course document editor, and Lead Donor Ambassador.
