Woman rolling out dough at bakery near Odyssey Lake in Brunswick, Georgia

Nothing says home more than the exquisite aroma of bread baking in the oven or the taste of extra frosting on a spoon. You don't have to dig out the flour and rolling pin to enjoy the sweet flavors you crave. Brunswick is home to several creative bakeries where the service is friendly and the pastries divine. Stop by one of these local treasures for the best of homemade goodness.

The Village Oven

The Village Oven is relatively new on the downtown Brunswick scene but it is already making an impression on the morning and lunch crowd. Owner Drew Gahagan has innovatively combined an artisanal bread bakery with a trendy bistro and the community is all the better for it. Whether your guilty pleasure is freshly-baked baguettes, pecan biscotti, or a bowl of hot Italian artichoke soup, a visit to The Village Oven is the right choice.

Drew takes an artful approach to his work and you will be impressed by the specialty breads all made with organic flour with no preservatives or additives. The menu is diverse and interesting and includes the bistro's popular Liege Belgian waffles and red dragon cheese sandwich. Pastry-lovers are rewarded when they order the flaky blueberry scones or the melt-in-your-mouth molasses ginger cookies. It doesn't get any better than that.

C is for Sweets

C is for Sweets is the realized dream of Roberta Terry. Her childhood meals and desserts were made-from-scratch by her mother whose award-winning cookery was the prize of the county fair. The old-fashioned bakery specializes in small batch from scratch baking using locally-sourced ingredients and recyclable plastic and paper. C is for Sweets is a community caretaker too, donating her incredible edibles to worthy causes.

Some of the offerings include chocolate-covered strawberries, pralines, and divinity are on the menu too if you prefer to splurge on fudge and candy. C is for Sweets is happy to take special orders and can accommodate gluten-free, dairy-free, eggless, and sugar-free diets if requested. It's a small bakery with a big heart.

PamPam Cupcake Bakery

PamPam Cupcake Bakery is one of those Brunswick gems you will keep returning to again and again. The quaint sweet shop has recently expanded to include a lunch menu but it's the fanciful cupcakes drawing the crowds. The friendly venue features unique cupcake flavors like peach cobbler, strawberry shortcake, and banana pudding. They will also gladly bake custom gourmet cakes to order with all the frills.

PamPam Cupcakes offers specially-made cupcakes filled with healthy ingredients for your furry friends so you don't have to go home empty-handed. The bakery hosts private parties for birthdays, corporate events, or holiday get-togethers and baking camps are available for the little ones in the summer months. Owner Pamela Taylor has been delighting locals with her creative concoctions since 2011 and is a true neighborhood treasure.
