Spring cleaning season is here, meaning it’s time to go through and declutter your space. Having trouble letting go? Here are a few ways to turn your sentimental clutter into cute pieces of art or tabletop decor.
Framed Flowers
If you’ve been hanging on to your bouquet from Valentine’s Day or have a lot of petals from a special occasion, it’s time to do something with them! Press your flowers so they dry out and then glue them to a piece of paper. Trim the paper to the size of a frame you’d like to use, and viola. Check out this how-to for inspiration and more tips for a beautiful piece.
Bookmarks
One way to make use of your sentimental items is to use them as bookmarks. You can use a laminator or clear contact paper to trap your pressed flowers, receipts from meaningful date nights, or any other flat object you want to preserve. Your little memories now serve a secondary purpose, and are protected from deteriorating! Here are some steps to make a bookmark with your pressed flowers, but feel free to branch out, change shapes, and have fun with it!
Shadow Box
Have a lot of trinkets from a specific trip, weekend, or event? Purchase a shadow box from your local craft store or order one online. You can decorate the box with all your ticket stubs, photos, and memorabilia and use it as an art piece. The 3D shape allows you to incorporate snow globes, sea shells, or small items that might be taking up space elsewhere.
