Spend a Day with the Animals at ZooTampa

Spend a Fun-Filled Day at ZooTampa at Lowry Park

With nearly one million visitors annually, ZooTampa at Lowry Park is one of the most popular zoos in the southeast. It's home to over 1,000 animals and inspires guests to protect and preserve wildlife. The following are some animals you can discover near our Tampa apartments:

Bornean Orangutan

Known for their playfulness, Bornean orangutans are the world's largest mammals that live in trees. These animals are native to the island of Borneo. You can easily recognize them by their long reddish-brown fur, and their hands have a powerful grip for grasping branches. At the zoo, you'll watch as an orangutan family plays and searches for delicious treats. Check out the Orangutan when you are visiting ZooTampa

African Elephant

Majestic creatures, African elephants are the largest living land animals. They can grow up to 12 feet tall and use their trunks to communicate and knock over trees. During your zoo adventure, you'll see Ellie. She's the oldest elephant at 39 years old and enjoys munching on bananas. The herd also features Mavi, Matejka, and their friends.

Pygmy Hippo

Native to the forests of West Africa, pygmy hippos are smaller than their relative, known as the river hippopotamus. Adults weigh 350 to 600 pounds and stand up to 39 inches in height. These animals are also classified as endangered. It's believed that there are less than 3,000 remaining in the wild.

Florida Manatee

Often called sea cows, Florida manatees live between 50 and 60 years. They feast on freshwater and saltwater plants and are generally found in slow-moving water between three and twenty feet deep. ZooTampa is the home of the David A. Straz Jr. Manatee Critical Care Center. It was the first of its type and worked to treat ill and injured manatees. Guests can watch veterinary and rehabilitation procedures in real-time.

After visiting the zoo, relax at home with a good read from a local bookstore. When you would like to become a resident of Olympus Harbour Island, please contact us. We will gladly show you everything that our Tampa apartments have to offer.
