Summer is in full swing and it’s time to get your beach body perfected. Getting to the gym can be a challenge these days, so here are some great full body exercises you can do in the comfort of your own Olympus Harbour Island apartment to help you be your best self.
Jumping Jack (AKA Star Jumps)
This classic exercise may be reminiscent of elementary school gym class, but it will work all the most important parts of your body when done correctly. The key is to make sure you engage your muscles – particularly your abs and glutes – with each jump.
It may surprise you to learn that the humble squat utilizes almost every muscle in your body. To get the most out of the squat, stand with your feet a bit wider than your shoulders and slowly sit back and down with your arms in front of you for balance. Be sure to keep your upper back straight, your eyes forward, your knees tracking over your feet, and your movements slow.
This one exercise will not only work and condition your whole body while getting your heart rate up, but is done with no equipment at all – making the burpee the ultimate at-home exercise. Begin standing before dropping to a squat position. Set your hands on the floor in front of you and kick your feet back into a push-up position. Lower your body so that your chest touches the floor (you can first lower to your knees). Then, jump (or step) and return your feet to the outside of your hands in the squat position as fast as possible. Finally, jump up into the air with your hands overhead, and repeat.
Perform these exercises all together in a series – like 12 reps of each followed by nine reps, then six reps, and then three for a power workout – or alone in rounds for time.
