You don’t have to be Irish to enjoy a bit of “craic” (fun) around St. Patrick’s Day. If you’re looking for a way to celebrate or clink glasses with a hearty “Sláinte,” here are a few places to stop.
6th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Party at Wicked Barley
Head over to this brewing company on Baymeadows Road for their annual celebration of this Irish tradition. They’ll have live music, Irish food, and of course, special drinks on tap. Each year, they feature a menu of delicious Irish cuisine, like Corned Beef Shepherd’s Pie or Irish Stew. And of course, they always have green soft pretzels on hand. They’ll also have green lagers and other “on brand” drinks like Shamrock Slushies to help you celebrate the day. Follow their Instagram page to find out the date and menu offerings for this year’s party.
Main Street Community Clean Up
Help prepare for the St. Patrick’s Day Block Party by joining the community in a cleanup of Main Street on Saturday, March 12. This is a great way to spend time with friends and family while also giving back to the community. All you have to do is show up – the organizers will provide bags, gloves, and trash grabbers. Can’t make it at 9 AM on the dot? Can’t stay until 11? No problem! Just show up whenever you can, or take off early. Any time volunteers can give to this event is welcome.
St. Paddy’s Run 5K & 10K
This March 13 event benefits the Springfield Historical Society – and it’s a great way to get out in the fresh air and shake off those winter doldrums. If you sign up now, the entry fee is only $35 which will cover shirts, bibs, and finisher medals. And make sure you stay motivated because first-, second-, and third-place winners will earn cash prizes up to $200!
Irish Breakfast Cooking Class
Have you ever wanted to learn how to make a classic Irish breakfast? Now’s your chance. JAX Cooking Studio is offering an Irish cooking class on Saturday, March 12, that will teach you how to make an Irish feast with dishes like soda bread, black pudding, potato pancakes, and chocolate stout cake. Best of all, you’ll get to enjoy free mimosas and wine!
