EXPLORE JACKSONVILLE'S BEST MUSEUMS

|

Jacksonville has long prided itself on its love of the arts with an array of museums, historical sites and cultural events that help shape this dynamic city. With almost 20 museums and galleries alone, there is something for everyone to explore including art, science and history. For those looking to take in all that Jacksonville has to offer from a cultural perspective, here are a few museums to enjoy:

Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens

Located in the Riverside area, Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens is one of Jacksonville's preeminent cultural institutions. Founded in 1961, this museum was created at the bequest of Ninah Cummer, a local art lover and philanthropist who donated her sprawling estate and gardens to be used as a museum. Today, visitors can enjoy over 5,000 works of art in their permanent collection as well as numerous rotating collections from 2100 B.C. through the 21st century. Additionally, guests can explore the incredible gardens that include sculptures and manicured landscapes.

Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville

Making its home in the Downtown neighborhood, the Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, or "MOCA Jacksonville", was established in 1924. Affiliated with the University of North Florida, this museum is one of the Southeast's largest institutions dedicated to contemporary art. With a range of art pieces from the 1960's to the present day, MOCA Jacksonville showcases many mediums including photography, painting and sculpture. In addition to its permanent collection, the museum offers special exhibitions and events.

Museum of Science and History

Focused on both science and local history, the Museum of Science and History, or "MOSH", is a popular museum located on the Southbank Riverwalk. Offering interactive displays and exhibits, MOSH allows guests to become entrenched in innovation as well as ecological and cultural history. Also part of the museum, the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium offers exciting shows and events that highlight the exploration of deep space.
