TIPS TO CREATE A NEW DUNGEONS & DRAGONS CHARACTER

|

Whether you need to create a new character or are just getting into role playing games and are creating your very first hero, here are a few tips to help you. To start, download a character sheet.

Start Simple

Character sheets can be as complex or as simple as you like. If you’re new to games like Dungeons & Dragons, it might be better to stick to the basics. Have a few campaigns under your belt? Branch out to try more powerful spells, weapons, or moves – but be aware it might be more difficult to wield your new abilities effectively.

Add Some Personality

Your character should have a complex backstory and personality to really bring them to life. Decide what temperament they have, their likes and dislikes, and get creative with their quirks. If you can’t think of anything, use your own personality traits to liven up your character.

Consider Your Role

Always think of how your character will work in a team, and think of skills and abilities that will create a balanced group experience. If you know that your party is missing a support character, consider creating someone who can fill that niche and help the team overall. You should also think about “ICE” – interactions, combat, and exploration. What strengths and possible weaknesses will your character have in each of these scenarios?

Have Fun!

Make sure your new character is fun to play! You don’t want to create someone vanilla, overly complex, or super boring to play. At the end of the day, it’s a game! Cater your character sheet to the playstyle you enjoy and go from there.

If you’re feeling a little lazy, use these starter suggestions and tweak them to your liking. Looking for more fun and games? Read on at The Mirador & Stovall at River City blog.
