THE BEST 5 SPOTS FOR CARNIVORES IN JAX

|

Meat, glorious meat! When you’re craving a big, juicy burger or a perfectly cooked steak, nothing else will satisfy. Carnivores, Mirador & Stovall at River City has your back. The next time you’re ready to pack it away, take a look through this list of our five best spots for meat lovers in Jacksonville.

Amelia Tavern

Head out to Amelia Island and feel cooler immediately when you step into Amelia Tavern, an industrial chic hangout on the west side of the island near Fernandina Harbor Marina. Start off with one of 18 beers on tap, brewed in-house by Amelia Island Brewing Co., and an A.T. Pretzel with housemade beer cheese dip and Bavarian mustard. From there, you’ll be primed for a beer burger – sorry, we got carried away! There’s no beer in it, but that’s the only fault with the classic A.T. Burger. You can, however, get a little crazy with the Pastrami Burger that gives you beer-braised sauerkraut on top of your double meat. Lastly, a trip to Amelia Tavern gives you the perfect excuse for some down time in beautiful Fernandina Beach.

Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse

Pound for salty pound, a good Brazilian churrascaria can’t be beat when it comes to delivering a meat lover’s kind of meal. You won’t be disappointed at Terra Gaucha Brazilian Steakhouse, where they serve up fire-roasted meats rodizio-style, along with authentic Brazilian side dishes. The challenge here is to keep yourself from overdoing it at the all-you-can-eat salad bar. If you’re disciplined enough to do that, you’ll be rewarded as the servers bring around mouth-watering cuts of beef, lamb, pork, and chicken. Settle in, take your time, and eat your fill!

Firebirds Wood Fired Grill

For a hearty meal in a relaxed environment, head to Firebirds Wood Fired Grill at the Strand, across from St. Johns Town Center. Hand-cut steaks – aged for 21 days and cooked on a wood-fired grill – headline this meaty menu. If you’re up for a little zesty spice, dig into the 12-ounce Chile Rubbed Delmonico, a signature steak you won’t find elsewhere. For a reliable classic, try the 7-ounce or 9-ounce filet mignon, a tender center-cut filet wrapped in applewood-smoked bacon. Bonus meat!

River City Brewing Company

Located in Southbank, just across the river from downtown, River City Brewing Company makes for the perfect sit-and-enjoy meal. Grab a seat looking out over the water and cut into their 12-ounce grilled ribeye, served over a potato hash with mushrooms and bacon. For a tasty palette cleanser, sip on one of the flavorful beers from their in-house brewery, starting with the Laughing Lizard Lager. After dinner, you can work off a few of those calories with a stroll along the beautiful Southbank Riverwalk.

River & Post

Across the water in Five Points, River & Post serves up culinary delights from their destination rooftop bar, where you’ll take in views over the St. Johns River to the downtown skyline. Don’t go straight to the rooftop, or you’ll miss their stylishly decorated interior, highlighted by wood planks on the walls and ceiling. Savor the amazing and colorful charcuterie before selecting your entree from The Field (beef, pork, and chicken) or The Sea. Whether you’re in the mood for the Seared Filet Mignon Diane with grilled asparagus or the shrimp with smoked gouda grits, you’ll have plenty of delicious meaty options to devour.
