With PS5 scheduled to release this holiday season, we thought it’d be a great time to look back at some of the highlights released on PS4. If you somehow overlooked these titles, don’t fret – it’s never too late to try out these great games.
Bloodborne
Everything you’ve heard about this game is true. Yes, it’s challenging. Yes, you will die – a lot, and then some. And, yes, the story is difficult to decipher without community discussion and analysis. But that’s part of what makes the game stand out. In an industry that has perhaps gotten a little too comfortable with gently guiding the player every step of the way, Bloodborne (and its brethren) demands your mastery of its mechanics. From its wide range of weapons and magic to its unforgettable boss battles to its Gothic, Victorian-era setting that weaves elements of Lovecraftian horror into both its story and its gameplay, Bloodborne stands as the pinnacle of the action role-playing genre.
Hitman 2
The Hitman series has seen somewhat of a renaissance since the release of 2016’s Hitman. While stealth remains somewhat of a niche genre, gamers who value replayability and player ingenuity and experimentation will find much to appreciate about this darkly comedic game that has you pursue your targets across beautifully realized international locales. With Hitman 3 slated for release on PS4 and PS5 January 2021, now’s your chance to catch up before the final entry of the trilogy.
Street Fighter V
While the game had a shaky launch – its lack of single-player content left some early adopters feeling as though the game was unfinished – Street Fighter V has come a long way. Indeed, the game is still being supported by Capcom, with five more DLC characters planned for release. Featuring a fully stacked, balanced roster and a robust single-player experience, Capcom has established Street Fighter V as one of the best entries in a legendary series.
Play Your Way
We know, we definitely left out some of your favorites. The PS4 has an impressive library – God of War, Uncharted 4, Horizon Zero Dawn, Persona 5, Red Dead Redemption 2 – the list is nearly endless. We look forward to seeing what game developers bring to the next generation when PS5 is released at the end of the year.
