5 OFFBEAT LIVE EVENTS TO EXPERIENCE IN JACKSONVILLE THIS MONTH

|

February is here and there’s lots going on in Jacksonville this month. You should definitely go to the Seawalk Music Festival, and Cats is in town, if that floats your boat. But why not mix it up with something quirky and different? Jacksonville has a plethora of offbeat events that could become your favorite new obsession, so get out of your comfort zone and check out one of these five live events in February.

Cupid’s Undie Run, Feb. 12

This annual country-wide event is as silly and fun as it sounds, and it raises money for neurofibromatosis research. So dig out your pink boxer shorts and boa and join the run, or just watch the panty parade from the sidelines.

Jacksonville Record & CD Festival, Feb. 12

Even if your turntable and CD player are long gone, this quirky event is worth checking out. Held at the Adam Herbert Center on the campus of University of North Florida, the massive collection includes T-shirts, posters, and other pop culture memorabilia, as well as vinyl and CDs.

Dancing With the Stars Live, Feb. 15

The reality contest has been running a whopping 30 years and this spinoff live show features some of the past stars and many of the regular dance crew from the contest. Whether you’re a DWTS superfan or you just like to watch fancy footwork, you won’t want to miss this.

Alton Brown Live, Feb. 16

The quirky culinary star brings a live show that combines cooking with comedy, music, and food science. Even if you are not a gastronome, it should be highly entertaining.

LOLCON, Feb. 17

The first annual LOLCON (lovers over losers conference) will be held at Jacksonville’s Seawalk Pavilion and is free. The event site explains that they are “largely anime and cosplay based” and LOLCON will draw a “diverse variety of communities” and provide an “excellent opportunity for creatives to showcase their talents and products.” Don your hippie beads and join the lovefest.
