4 AMAZING COLORADO MOUNTAIN BIKING ROAD TRIPS

|

If you love being on two wheels, you’re in luck – Colorado has countless opportunities for mountain biking adventures. You might need four wheels to get to some of these locations, but what’s better than a mountain biking road trip?

Be sure to put these locations on your 2022 mountain biking to-do list.

Buffalo Creek

It might be a long trip – nearly six hours – but with over 75 miles of newly built trails, it is so worth it. This is a favorite stop for Denver’s mountain biking enthusiasts and you’ll understand why when you see these amazing trails and views. Be sure you’ve got a lot of experience under your belt, however, as these trails were designed for intermediate and advanced mountain bicyclists. You’ll find lots of rocky, challenging terrain, curving and hilly trails, and plenty of manmade berms.

Ridgway

This small town is only about two hours away – a perfect weekend getaway. Their mountain biking trail system is one of the newest in the state, which features dozens of miles of track winding through the San Juan foothills. Each trail is clearly marked for its ability level, and you can choose between loop trails or tracks that will take all day to complete. Head up to the top of the trail system and there you can choose the rest of your route.

Crested Butte

No mountain biking destination list would be complete without this network of trails, beloved by mountain bicyclists all over the West. And with 750 miles of trail, it’s no wonder why Crested Butte is so well-loved. Be sure you take enough time off to truly explore this area that offers hundreds of options and routes.

Fruita

Just about four hours away is this little town, once known for its agricultural economy. Here, you’ll find acres of BLM land that is open to mountain bikers of all levels. Follow the Prime Cut through the desert for a two-mile adventure that will take you to the top of the trail system. There’s the Pumps, Bumps, and Rollers Run for beginners, or for an easy warm-up. And if you want a real challenge, try the climb up Joe’s Ridge for an all-out roller coaster ride that will have you gripping your handlebars in exhilaration.
