Top Places to Enjoy Bird-Watching in San Diego

San Diego is home to over 500 bird species, mainly in the coastal wetlands. In fact, is the only place you are likely to see unique, beautiful, and threatened species such as Ridgeway's rail and spectacular shore birds like birds of paradise. Here are some amazing places you can visit for bird-watching near our apartments in San Diego:

San Diego Zoo Safari Park

San Diego Zoo is the best place for the most powerful, popular, and fancy birds. Here, you can see birds like Lorikeets, riflebirds, and American Kestrels. What's more, you do not need fancy cameras or binoculars because the birds are right in the trees or just flying over your head. San Diego Zoo is a good spot when you want to watch birds and enjoy the luxury of nature with the wildlife safari.

Sunset Cliffs Park

If you are looking for a popular and safe destination for birding and hiking, try out Sunset Cliffs Park. It is located between Ocean Beach and Point Loma. It is also full of wonderful cliffs and coastal sea caves that provide a scenic view of the Pacific Ocean. Sunset Cliffs Park is one of the majestic spots to watch the endangered Belding's Savannah sparrow, brilliant seagull, and vivacious whimbrels.

Famosa Slough

Famosa Slough in Point Loma is another ultimate spot for bird watching. Besides walking trails, the small tidal marsh has benches at strategic places where you can sit and enjoy all kinds of shorebirds. Here, you can see birds like the Blue-winged Teal, American Coot, and the migratory marbled godwits. The few people on this trail make it the best place for unwinding and capturing the wonders of flying animals.

La Jolla Cove

The rocky shoreline north of La Jolla Cove can be another great alternative place for bird watching. This place has stunning bird species like large brown pelicans, occasional osprey, terns, and gulls. If you're lucky, you will see the world's fastest animal, the peregrine falcon.

After visiting these bird-watching spots in San Diego, don't forget to give yourself a nice treat from one of these dessert food trucks on your way home.
