National Golf Month is officially here! With over 90 golf courses throughout San Diego County, it’s no wonder this beloved sport is such a big part of life in this SoCal city, quickly turning it into a much sought after golf destination. Laid out among seaside settings, desert mountains, and inland valleys, the courses here are hard to beat. This month, get your swing on at these four courses to celebrate San Diego’s new favorite pasttime.
Torrey Pines Golf Course
Perched on the bluffs of Torrey Pines State Park, overlooking the Pacific Ocean in La Jolla, sits Torrey Pines Golf Course, widely recognized as one of the area’s best golf courses. Torrey Pines has two famous 18-hole golf courses — North Course and South Course — which hosted several important tournaments. In fact, the South Course is scheduled to host the 2021 U.S. Open. If you want a reservation, expect a wait. People sometimes arrive as early as 6 PM the night before to get in line for the first-come, first-served tee times. Now that’s dedication.
Omni La Costa Resort & Spa
A legend in golf history, Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California, is one of the nation's top-ranked destinations for hitting the links. Omni La Costa has hosted 37 PGA Tour events and, like Torrey Pines, they too have two 18-hole courses to play on — the Champions Course and the Legends Course.
Aviara Golf Club
Located at Park Hyatt Resort Aviara, the Aviara Golf Club is simply one of the most luxurious and breathtaking golf experiences in Southern California. Surrounded by wildflowers, waterfalls, and the insane beauty of the adjacent Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation game sanctuary and bird estuary, this one-of-a-kind course promises to be one of the most beautiful you’ll visit in San Diego County. Plus, Arnold Palmer designed this course. Trust us, the dude is a master at more than mixing ice tea and lemonade.
Colina Park Golf Course
Simply put, Colina Park Golf Course is more than your average neighborhood golf course. This 18-hole par-3 course is located in City Heights and offers golfers of all skills levels a fun and challenging way to test their game. There are lots of creative skill opportunities, with every hole being less than 110 yards, with elevated tee boxes and contoured greens throughout. Walk this gem of a course in less than three hours, and up your golf skills while you’re at it.
