San Diego boasts some of the best year-round weather in the country, making it the perfect place to trek outside and enjoy everything the city has to offer. One of the top ways to experience San Diego is on foot, by exploring one of the many hiking adventures that can be found throughout the city. For those looking to take in some of the most stunning sights, here are some great urban hikes that can be enjoyed all year round.
Seven Bridges Walk
Located along a former streetcar route, the Seven Bridges Walk is a fantastic way to explore the urban terrain of San Diego. Covering almost seven miles, the Seven Bridges Walk is aptly named as it includes seven pedestrian bridges that cross over a mix of thruways and canyons. Beginning near Balboa Park, this hike winds its way through some of San Diego's most charming and eclectic neighborhoods including Hillcrest, North Park, and Banker's Hill. With moderate terrain that is mostly on flat surfaces, this trail is an ideal choice for walkers and bikers.
City Heights Canyons Loop Trail System
One of the city's newest trail systems, the City Heights Canyons Loop Trail System, was recently completed in 2017. This five-mile loop connects four of San Diego's city-owned canyons including 47th Street, Swan, Hollywood, and Manzanita. Over the course of the canyon trail, hikers have the opportunity to not only enjoy beautiful native plants and flowers, but also expansive city parks and art murals along the way.
Grasslands Loop Trail
For those looking for an easy but scenic city trail, the Grasslands Loop Trail is just over a mile long making it perfect for hikers of all ages. Located in Mission Hills Regional Park, the Grasslands Loop Trail is just one of several trails in this 7,000-acre urban park. With mainly flat terrain and wide dirt pathways, the Grasslands Loop Trail features incredible mountain scenery with easy access to some of the more adventurous hikes that can be found within the Mission Hills Regional Park.
