As we approach our first – and hopefully only – COVID-19 Halloween, it’s necessary to find new ways to socially distance during what’s often one of the most social holidays of the year. But like Dr. Ian Malcolm of Jurassic Park-fame once said, life finds a way. And apparently so do a few businesses in the San Diego area. Here are a couple of local Halloween-themed destinations putting a socially responsible spin on the usual traditions.
Drive-Thru Scream Zone: Roadkill
Like a zombie in body armor, you can’t keep this place down. A San Diego mainstay for the past 23 years, The Scream Zone has reimagined their annual event, bringing the frights directly to your car. Imagine a fast food drive-thru of terror, where patrons weave their vehicles through a mile’s worth of killer clowns, zombies, and some of cinema's most iconic horror villains, and you’ll have a bit of an idea what to expect.
Mr. Jack O’Lanterns Pumpkin Patch
For many of us, a trip to the pumpkin patch is synonymous with Halloween. And, even in these spooky COVID times, it’s very much still an option. But for those who prefer to practice the utmost socially distanced safety, Mr. Jack O’Lanterns Pumpkin Patch has another option. Along with the traditional pumpkin picking, you can now pick out your pumpkins online and opt for contactless curbside pickup – and they even deliver!
